Consideration for the waiver of all duties and taxes in respect of one (1) vehicle per family is granted in accordance with the Ministry of Finance's policy on Returning Nationals.
Application forms for duty-free concession on vehicles to Returning Nationals may be accessed through this website or from the front desk at the Ministry of Finance located at Government Headquarters, Bay Street, St. Michael.
Application forms, along with copies of supporting documents must be presented upon interview to officers of the Tax Administration (Revenue) Section at the Ministry of Finance upon interview. The original documents must also be presented for verification
Returning Nationals may telephone 436-6435 in order to arrange a convenient time for an interview. Interviews are conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, respectively, between the hours of 9.am to 12 pm, by appointment only.
 
Household and Personal Effects
Returning Nationals may contact the Facilitation Unit For Returning Nationals (FURN) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 436-2990 in order to arrange a convenient time for appointment regarding concessions on household and personal effects.
Criteria for Consideration
A Returning National is required to present proof of being :
at least 50 years old
a Barbadian citizen by birth, descent, registration or naturalization (Where a person has acquired Barbadian citizenship by descent, he/she is required to furnish proof of having resided on the island for at least 183 days prior to emigrating);
resident abroad for at least ten (10) years immediately prior to the date of resettlement
the owner of the relevant vehicle, having purchased the same from a Country outside the Caribbean Common Market (CARICOM) region, un-less he/she is relocating from that region.
the vehicle may be imported within a period of three (3) months before or three (3) months after the date of resettlement.
where the vehicle is imported within three (3) months before the date of resettlement, The Returning National will be required to enter into a bond arrangement with the Comptroller of Customs until the application process is completed).
Conditions
Within five (5) business days of clearing the vehicle the following must be submitted to the Tax Administration (Revenue) Section at Ministry of Finance:
(a) Copy of the receipt issued by the Chief Licensing Officer showing Vehicle Registration Number
(b) Copy of Insurance Certificate
(c) Copy of C63 Form
Following the grant of concessions Returning Nationals are required to hold vehicles for a period of at least three (3) years after the date of approval, failing which the un-expired portion of duties and taxes shall become repayable to the Comptroller of Customs
Following the grant of concession Returning National status shall be valid for one year and becomes due for renewal for three years on the anniversary date of the concession
In order to renew the status, Returning Nationals are required to present to the Ministry of Finance, copies of the following:
(a) copy of the passport as proof of having resided on the island for at least 183 days within the year for which renewal is sought.
(b) copy of the insurance document as proof of the vehicle being re-insured in the name of the Returning National.
(c) copy of the registration document from the Chief Licensing Officer as proof of the vehicle being re-registered in the name of the Returning National.

The Returning National may be required to present copies of the following documents

Official correspondence from Income Tax Department;
Official correspondence from Social Security Department
Job Letter bearing specific dates of commencement and termination as well
as details as to whether the Returning National has retired, resigned etc. (the latter being proof of having severed ties with the employer).
The Returning National (RN) may be asked to supplement the above with an affidavit drawn up by a local Attorney and bearing the stamp and signature of a Justice of The Peace)

Where a vehicle is older than 4 years the Returning National will be required to furnish proof of having owned the same for at least 4 years, for the purpose of obtaining an Import Licence from the Division of Commerce.
